"I booked a last-minute walking tour in Wrangell, and it was one of the highlights of my visit! Jonas was an excellent guide, and the two-hour tour flew by. He is incredibly knowledgeable about the area’s history and shared so many interesting stories. As a local now with his family living in Wrangell, it’s obvious how much he loves the community. Skip the large tour groups and book a small-group tour with Jonas—you won’t regret it!"

"We stepped off our ship in Wrangell with no real plan and stumbled onto this walking tour total jackpot. Jonas, who owns the company, guided us himself and was fantastic: warm, easygoing, and full of great stories about the town’s history and what everyday life is like in this part of Alaska. It felt less like a tour and more like getting the inside scoop from a local friend. If you’re in port and want an authentic, easy way to see Wrangell on foot, book this one. Highly recommend!"

"The 2-hour walking tour we booked was a delight. Jonas started the tour by asking about our interests so that the tour could encompass what we most wanted to learn about Wrangell. The tour covered indigenous culture and history, details about John Muir’s time spent in the area, information about current life in Wrangell, and of course, an informative stop at petroglyph beach. Jonas was thoughtful, engaging, and welcomed our questions, while pacing the tour to accommodate our needs. There is no better way to learn about an area than from a local guide, and we highly recommend booking this tour for a unique and immersive experience in Wrangell."

Jonas Crabtree and partner outdoors in the forest near Wrangell, Alaska

Hi, I’m Jonas, your local walking tour guide here in Wrangell, Alaska. I moved to this island in 2015, and after spending more than 700 nights exploring its shorelines and forests as a wilderness guide, I didn’t just find a career—I found home.

I founded these walking tours to offer something different: an authentic, small-group connection to the land and the legends of Wrangell. With a degree in Tourism and Outdoor Leadership, I’ve spent my life studying how we connect with the wild. But it’s my life here as a neighbor, a friend, and a new father that truly roots me to this community.

When you walk with me, you aren’t just getting a history lesson. You’re hearing the stories of the people, the past, and the living culture that I am now raising my daughter to cherish.

I designed these tours for curious travelers arriving by sea who want to step beyond the pier and discover the ‘real’ Alaska. I’m glad you’re here, and I look forward to showing you the island I call home.
