Frequently Asked Questions
Booking & Logisitics
Where do tours begin from the cruise dock?
We meet just beyond the Wrangell City Dock, only steps from where cruise guests disembark. Our meeting point is located on the sidewalk next to the cul‑de‑sac at the end of the dock.
Will I get back to my ship in time?
Yes. As a local operator, we monitor the cruise schedules daily. Our tours are timed specifically to ensure you have a relaxed experience and return to the dock with plenty of time before your ship’s “all aboard” call.
Can I book on the day my ship arrives?
Often, yes — especially earlier in the day. However, tours frequently fill on cruise days, so booking ahead guarantees your spot. If you’re already in town and want to join a tour today, feel free to call or text me at 907‑802‑0057, and I’ll let you know what’s available.
What if my cruise ship changes its schedule?
It happens! If your cruise line adjusts arrival or departure times, contact me as soon as possible. I routinely monitor ship schedules and will do everything I can to adjust your tour so you can still enjoy Wrangell and return to your ship on time.
What is included in the booking price?
Your booking includes a fully guided interpretive walking tour, admission to the Wrangell Museum, and a custom souvenir postcard (one per paying guest). It’s the perfect way to experience Wrangell’s history, culture, and nature with a local guide.
Do I have to pay for my children?
Children ages 12 and under join the tour for free! We are a family-friendly operation and love sharing Wrangell’s history with the next generation.
Safety & Accessibility
What are the walking conditions like?
Wrangell is a charming, historic town, which means our sidewalks vary in condition. While we stay on designated pedestrian paths, you may encounter uneven surfaces or steep transitions. We recommend sturdy, comfortable walking shoes.
What is the pace of the tour? Can I take breaks?
Yes — our tours are designed for a relaxed, conversational pace. We make frequent stops for stories, photos, and viewpoints. If you need an extra moment to rest, simply let me know. This is your time to enjoy Wrangell, not a race.
Is the tour wheelchair or stroller accessible?
Yes. Our standard city walking tour is accessible. For tours visiting Petroglyph Beach, guests using wheelchairs or with limited mobility can enjoy the experience from the ADA-accessible deck, which features interpretative signs and high-quality replicas of the ancient rock carvings.
What if we go down to the beach?
On “The Explorer” tour (offered during appropriate tides), we may head down a small set of stairs to the beach.
Please note: The beach environment includes slippery rocks, driftwood logs, and uneven sand/gravel. Guests choosing to leave the deck and walk onto the beach do so at their own risk.
Are restrooms available during the tour?
Yes. Restrooms are available near the tour’s start and end points, including at the Wrangell Museum. We recommend using the facilities before the tour begins, but if you need a stop along the way, we’ll accommodate whenever possible.
Weather & Preparation
Does the tour run in the rain?
Yes! Wrangell sits in the heart of the Tongass National Forest—a temperate rainforest—so mist and light rain are part of the experience. Our tours operate rain or shine. Dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket.
What should I bring?
We recommend:
- Comfortable walking shoes
- A waterproof jacket
- A reusable water bottle
- Your camera—Wrangell’s scenery is worth capturing
Should I tip my guide?
Gratuities are never required but always appreciated. If you enjoyed your experience and feel inspired to leave a tip, thank you — it directly supports local guiding work here in Wrangell.
Can I take photos at cultural or historical sites?
Absolutely — Wrangell is full of beautiful views and important cultural landmarks. Photography is welcome on the tour. When visiting culturally significant areas, we simply ask that visitors be respectful and follow any posted guidelines.
Still have questions?
As a local guide, I want to make sure you feel completely prepared for your visit to our island home. If you have specific mobility concerns or need help timing your tour with your ship’s arrival, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
