The Attraction
Muskeg Meadows is a 9-hole, USGA-rated regulation golf course (par 36, 3,000+ yards from the back tees) set against a backdrop of dramatic coastal mountains and dense Tongass rainforest. Built through dedicated community volunteer labor over an 11-year period, it features bentgrass greens, well-manicured fairways, and natural peat-bogs bordering every hole.
The course is internationally known for its official local rule: if a raven, eagle, or crow steals your golf ball off the fairway (a frequent occurrence with local corvids), players are granted a free drop with no penalty. The birds are naturally drawn to the bright white dimpled spheres, creating hilarious stories and memorable rounds for visiting golfers.
Beyond its unique corvid interactions, Muskeg Meadows represents an engineering triumph over Southeast Alaska’s saturated peat soils. Deep drainage swales, gravel sub-bases, and careful turf management create true-rolling greens and firm fairway corridors lined by towering Western hemlocks and Sitka spruces.
The facility includes a full driving range, practice putting green, clubhouse, and scenic walking trails around the perimeter. Whether you are an avid golfer looking to cross a bucket-list Alaskan course off your scorecard or a traveler seeking a scenic outdoor terrace for an afternoon drink, Muskeg Meadows welcomes players of all skill levels.
